Chapter 7
Not far from the Tahou Village, several people got off the bus before Mei with her elder son queuing at the back door and her little son sleeping in her arms. And one of them, a young muscular man in a pair of smoky grey jeans and a blue jacket, did not move quickly like the others. Instead, he turned abruptly and showed Mei a police badge. Mei immediately went into such a turmoil that she did not know what to do but pulled her elder son to her side. They were led to a black van. Two men about the same age as the policeman, one skinny and tall in a hoodie, the other round with a sharp suit, smiled slightly and nodded at Mei. They sat in a diff erent row, but both were holding the same strip of black cloth. The round one had the boy sit with him in the fi rst row and, behind them, Mei was made to sit between the skinny one and the policeman. Meanwhile, the driver was aloof.
